About Us

In 1990, Seven Angels was founded as a non-profit Equity professional theatre in Waterbury, Connecticut. It was financially made possible by seven people from the Greater Waterbury community. The founding was a result of an arts study that determined people had to travel outside the region to attend professional quality theatre. It was the only new professional performing arts organization to emerge in the region in over 60 years, and today, it is the only Actors' Equity professional theatre in the Greater Waterbury region.

Its home is in the historic Hamilton Pavilion in Hamilton Park owned by the City of Waterbury. Built in 1929, the building was once a big band hall, which then became a roller skating rink. In the 1980's the Pavilion fell into little use and was in need of renovation. Based on a proposal modeled after another public-private arts initiative and with $125,000 of private funding, Seven Angels renovated and converted part of the building into a 350-seat theatre in 1991.

Since that time, Seven Angels Theatre has raised another $500,000 in funding which has been put into restoring and updating the building. Seven Angels Theatre has also helped to secure another $500,000 in funding for the Pavilion for the City of Waterbury.

Today, over 50,000 people attend the 200 performance annually and the Theatre has an annual economic impact of $1.5 million dollars in Waterbury. In 16 years, Seven Angels has produced over 80 Equity professional productions, including 18 World Premieres. The Theatre presents 200 performances a year to over 50,000 patrons. The theatre annually draws audiences from a 50-90 mile radius, with tours coming from New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Theatre has been recognized and received numerous cultural and humanitarian awards for the founding, vision and excellence of the Theatre and its programs. Seven Angels Theatre has become nationally known and respected, and has made a difference in the image and the cultural growth of Waterbury.
